About Emma Gomara

  • Biography
People are my best inspiration in both of my two collections:
         - One is about the people I have around, in my city, during my trips. Always looking for the way they wear or move. I usually paint them with acrylics on canvas or paper. The style is modern and urban. The background is most of the times white or blurred so the viewer can focus on the human figure. I am not interested in drawing faces; this way more people can feel they are in the painting, or see friends or relatives they know. Most of my customers tell me my works transmit a relaxed image of people, that they provide calm. I guess I simplify what cities are, and summarize streets in the people who inhabit it.
          - The other collection is about the sea. I am also very interested in beach scenes and, in them, people have also the main role. I usually add surrealistics elements to the background as tiles, patterns, etc, to recreate a dreaming atmosphere. Diving people are quite often in my work. I am very connected to the sea. Practicing snorkel or just having a bath is my favourite way to charge batteries. I try to transmit the good vibes and quiteness to my works.

Normally, my creative process starts with a picture I take with my mobile. I think about a composition that may be better for the characters. Format is usually medium- small. Sometimes I make simulations in the computer, and once the design of the painting is ready, I start painting it. Sometimes the final result is as I thought it, but others, brushes and colors take the control and is completely different!
I started learning "drawing" and "painting" many years ago, in a local studio of art in my city, Zaragoza, Spain. Later I attended to different courses and I am still learning. I am always thinking in new processes and materials that would let me develope my art. For example, some of my works have been painted but shadows have been sewn with cotton thread.
Exhibitions are a great way to interact with spectators. I have participated in several solo and collective events. I have been also invited to paint some walls in public buildings (hospital, public offices). I find Instagram is great for sharing daily work (please check my account emmagomara_art). Travelling and painting are my passions, so I try to attend to art fairs in Spain, Italy, etc. whenever I can. Being in touch with what other artist do is a fantastic source of inspiration. And not only to learn about painting, but also about tricks or advices in logistics issues!
I love when a person from far away has connected with my work. And I specially enjoy when the buyer sends a pic of my painting in the new home. It is very exciting to provoke feelings of calm and beauty for others.
