  • Biography
My art is wet felted, so wool is my raw material. I love the vibrancy and the wide range of colours available to me, and despite it being a matt material, it's amazing how you can achieve the impression of a glowing moon or sun by mixing and layering contrast. The layering of different mediums such as silk, cotton and bamboo all add to give great depth and texture. It's also a very hands on technique, the initial layering of colours is very relaxing, you can let inspiration to take over, but the wet felting part involves physically massaging and repeatedly rolling the work, and the texture of feel of the work suddenly changes. It's learning when to stop this process, so that you get the required texture you want, which is part of the learning process.
My animals are all needle felted onto a wet felted background, which helps keep their furry texture. It also gives them an extra 3D quality which I feel gives them a real presence.
