About Dominika Block

  • Biography
I was born in Gdansk, grew up in Germany, studied in Austria; University of Applied Arts in Vienna. My résumé underscores my cosmopolitan nature. My art is guided by an interest in and receptivity to a variety of stories. Art is part of my life. First and foremost, I am concerned with the painting process itself. The paint application, the color selection, the brushstroke plus the emotional immersion in the act of painting itself.
In my work I transport moods and thus initiate the process of feeling, sensing and dreaming. Open-mindedness is my goal. Open-mindedness helps society to have a broader basis for its views and decisions. It leads to maturity and a more stable one Balance.
Life is made up of adventure, great emotions and philosophy. I love “to give things a soul”, “to get to the bottom of things”, to think about them, to move them back creatively and to recombine them. All of this happens before the painting process, in the painting process itself I strive for thoughtlessness. I love direct experimentation, I want to surrender to painting, enjoy the moment of painting. This results in a liveliness on the screen paired with narrative moments. When looking at it, the senses open and one becomes open to new experiences.
In my creation process, I also deal intensively and emphatically with observation and perception from my environment.
My work is a mirror of my alertness and my very own will to express. Full of desire and urge, I rush forward undeterred in painting. My search for creative forms of expression takes the viewer on a journey of the pictorial and suggests liveliness, open-mindedness and motivation. A motivated world is a satisfied world, because work has a way and a goal.
