About M Brick

  • Biography

I love  DESIGN without great DESIGN nothing works visually.   I see design in nature, in everyday objects, in the form of a person, in clothing. I am drawn to both American and Mexican  folk art because the images have clean lines but are dramatic in their expression. They get right to the point without any fussiness.

I have and still do create traditional painterly images. I have a background in digital arts. Vector digital images are uncluttered and hard edged. So how can I combine my love of traditional painting with these types of  digital images?  It took me a while to solve this mystery but now I have.  My current  paintings take traditional painterly images and techniques emphasized by bold black hard edged images.  Does it work, I think, yes.  I think these new explorative pieces express my vision and feelings. A  combination of SOFT AND BOLD.  ABSTRACT and REALISTIC.

I still paint abstractions, they are their own reality.  How to make sense or meaning of abstract images which are created using only  texture, color and design into a meaningful statement. A statement which makes sense to the artist but does it makes sense to the viewer?  That is the question.
