About Carol Gillan

I’m inspired by the sheer joy of animals to celebrate their unique characters through my work. I specialise in oil paintings of British wildlife, farm animals, & our wonderful pets and paint for both galleries/ undertake private commissions and work is also available on my website.

An animal's personality, humour, and trusting gaze are what I most love about portraiture. It’s the wonderful feelings that we get from seeing our best friends that my work aims to capture, with an informal, composed painting that contains both a realistic likeness and a uniquely distinctive interpretation. The animal is presented against a solid background of colour to maximise its impact, placing the spotlight on the main subject.

I use stretched canvas and canvas on board and I'm excited to have been undertaking oils on linen.

Original oils and giclée prints have been exhibited in the UK, Australia, and Europe; offices, restaurants and cruise ships. I was awarded First Place in the DeMontfort New Artist competition in 2006, chosen by Art Retailers at the NEC Birmingham. Work has been licensed worldwide.
