About Bernadette Koranteng

  • Biography
The strength, beauty and diversity of the human form fascinates and inspires me, whether I am working intuitively directly from the figure or creating a narrative composition. I love experimenting with and combining materials to create interesting, expressive surfaces. In my work I often combine collage and drawing materials with layers of oil glazes to create rich texture and luminous colour. I have explored a number of themes, always trying to express a personal narrative. Stories such as the 'Lovers' series and the 'Urban Madonna' series are told symbolically, allowing the viewer to connect with and respond to elements which are significant to them. Recent work explores childhood memories, family relationships and cultural influences. My tastes and influences in Art are extremely broad, ranging from Renaissance Art to Contemporary Street Art - Art must be more than just technique and decoration, it must give something to the viewer which cannot be explained.
