  • Biography

    Artūras Slapšys was born in 1962 in Kaunas city, Lithuania where he began painting at a very young age. During his education at The Kaunas University of Technology, Artūras began to experiment with his artistic craft, setting down the path that led to his mastery of oil and acrylic paint.

    Since 1996 his work has touched many people in every corner of the world and is in the private and institutional collections through Ukraine, Lithuania, Canada, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Iceland, Australia and the United States, where he lived for 15 years.

    In 2010 the Lithuanian Postal Service issued two postage stamps, ’’Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’’, both of which were designed by Slapšys.

    The following year he was once again awarded to design a postage stamp with, ’’The 775th Anniversary of the Battle of Saule’’.

    ’’The Exploration Museum’’ in Iceland acquired sixteen of his portraits of famous Vikings for its permanent collection.  In 2014 the Science and Encyclopedia Publishing Center in Lithuania issued a book titled ’’The Medieval Lords of Lithuania’’ to which Slapšys provided all the illustrations.

    Slapšys’ work was exhibited in many solo and group shows in the United States, Ukraine, Iceland and Lithuania and has received several awards for his creativity from many prominent agencies.

    Since 2010 until end of 2011, a member of the Chicago Artists Association.

    Since 2012, a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists Association.

    In 2014 granted the name of Lithuanian art creator.

    In 2015 awarded ''The Crystal of Kindness '' for Lithuania preservation of historical memory and support for the Ukrainian people.

    The artwork of Artūras Slapšys was used as illustrations in the historical magazines: ’’Military history monthly’’, Great Britain, ’’Ilustreta vesture’’, Latvia.
