About Andrii Kovalyk

  • Biography

Before the start of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, I painted mostly nature and cityscapes while traveling in Ukraine and other countries.

But after February 24, 2022, the pain of the loss of Ukrainian people, soldiers and civilians, destroyed cities, the crippled fate of millions of people forced me to change the angle of vision and now for me the main motives are people, because this is the greatest value.

Although my dream of a round-the-world trip remains, it is subordinated to the theme of war.  When I paint the nature of other countries, I think of the nature of Ukraine, which the russian aggressors mined.  When I paint the cityscapes of other countries, I remember the completely or partially destroyed Ukrainian cities of Mariupol, Kharkiv, Izyum, etc... When I paint people from other countries, I remember with tears in my eyes the tens of thousands of killed and wounded civilians, children and soldiers  of Ukraine.
