About Andrew Lander

  • Biography

Photography enables me to capture a moment; a unique experience. My aim is to bridge the gap between one moment and the next. Through observation of varying intensities of natural light, I hope to grasp the essence of the subject. This is explored more so in my paintings, where I have greater control over texture and tonal values.

I’m drawn to natural forms. Plants and flowers make good subjects because they are so varied in form and colour. Having life, inevitably they must die. This cause and effect can be a subtle dialogue that can only be explored over a series of observations. The use of standard formats of quartets, sextets, and diptychs etc enables juxtapositions, contrast, and analysis, which simply can’t be explored in a single composition.
