About Andrea Emily

  • Biography

I am interested in how we ‘frame’ what others see of us, the private self versus the public, the unseen and unheard, inside/outside, visible-invisible, the stage, and the theatre. Much of this is derived from my own experience of being a person with persistent pain.

I explore emotions, bursts of energy, push-pull, and power struggles, voices, narratives, and stories - I also support and coach university students to find and tell their own stories.

My work explores traces, layers, memories (sometimes barely remembered/ seen), history, landscape, nature, connection-disconnection, what's beneath the surface, boundaries, and marks. I love how each line, form, pattern, and texture disrupts the one beneath it, creating a unique process of discovery.

I am based in beautiful North Wales and I hail originally from the North East of England. I joined the MA Fine Art programme at the University of Chester (where I also work supporting students) and finished it in 2020 (with a Distinction), the final 6 months of which were completed during the first pandemic lockdown.

My original abstract, landscape, and still-life paintings are in private collections in the UK and the USA.
