Darker Joys - New Small Group Show

I'm very excited to announce that I am part of a new small group exhibit at the Cambridge Art Association: Darker Joys. I am joined by Katie Lane, Keith Maclelland and Stephanie Todhunter. "About | In Darker Joys four CAA artists invite you into their creative playground to revel in your base human instincts: a tangible expression of excess, a fearless exploration of medium and subject and an eagerness to surprise the viewer in ways both bold and subtle. We encourage you to gorge on those sweets and embrace the guilt and pleasure: lazy weekends, late night bacchanalia, tv binge watching, fast food, rollercoaster riding. Nothing is too frivolous, wicked or absurd. Come up into our clubhouse! Push the red button! Grab the last cookie! All the fun with none of the consequences. Come on, join us. EVERYONE is doing it." As soon as the exhibit is uninstalled, I will post available works for sale here on Artfinder!

Happy Art For Your Home Office

Happy Art For Your Home Office

This year most of my collectors are sprucing up their offices and I'm tickled to hear that they are choosing to bring joy into their workspace with my art! I just received another email from a happy owner who told me that she is redoing her office and that her new painting is going in a prominent spot. She says that the painting makes her happy and it brightens up the space. I'm happy when you're happy. So, I'm pretty darn happy right now. I've got to admit that I'm also a little bit jealous. Sure, my work space is, indeed, covered in my art work, it is also covered in a lot of paint, brushes, containers and bunches of colorfully stained towels!

    Painting at the easel.

    Painting at the easel.

Because I tend to work on several pieces at one time, I rotate artwork on and off my easel all day. Although I do have one big palette, I often mix up color in smaller bowls.

Creating small works at my painting table.

Creating small works at my painting table.

Having a flexible studio space is so important. I want to be able to switch around my painting and printing tables depending on what kind of work I am making and what the light is like on a particular day. I just have to make sure the wheels are locked before I start to work!

    The Work Table

I miss my work table when I am away from the studio. Right now I am thinking about all the colors I will be combining when I get back in there.

How Negative Sound Bites Inspire My New Work (Sort Of)

How Negative Sound Bites Inspire My New Work (Sort Of)

Heartbreak. Happiness. And a wish for a kinder world. I am currently inspired by my mother's ceramic designs - when she was alive she painted vessels with bold brushwork and I am coupling that with obnoxiously happy colors. My goal is to create forcefully joyous paintings that cannot be ignored. These loud, opinionated paintings of optimism grew out of my passionate desire to drown out the negativity and vitriol that are heaped on us at an ever-increasing rate and ear-splitting volume these days. I am going to drown it all out with Love. Joy. Optimism. Happiness. In the end the good guys always win. Nurture Love, my friends, nurture L-O-V-E.
