About alissa mihai

  • Biography
Alissa Mihai is drawn to life's coincidences and whimsicality as well as the mundane everyday existence and jobs. She likes to use relief printing, mainly in lino but sometimes vinyl or wood, to suggest stories or give narratives of daily lives. She finds that printmaking gives spirit and crispness to the images and hopes you will relate the situations you see to similar ones in your lives.
Alissa is mainly self taught and practices at home using the kitchen and its table as her print studio. Her family, pets and community provide much of the material and she always carries a sketch or idea book with her. This is where prints can initially take their shape as scribbled sketches. When she is happy with the composition she will transfer it to lino or vinyl or wood. She loves all the stages of making a print and works around family and time slots to determine whether it is a printing or cutting or drawing day.
Over recent years Alissa has had work in several galleries and Open Exhibitions in the South West. She is a member of the Devon Craftsmen's Guild and also the Westward Ho! and Bideford Arts Society.
