Event: The Call of the Sea
Dates: 1 Nov 2023 - 8 Nov 2023
A selection of original oil paintings, with connections to the sea, boats, harbours, under sail, yachting, fishing, under repairs in shipyards.
I have spent a year visiting harbours and boat yards, and creeks to capture all these images ‘en plein air’ as the impressionists did.
Gallery opening times 10.30 - 4pm Tues - Sat
11 - 4pm Sunday
Event: Cornwall, Norfolk and Wales, My year in Paint
Dates: 10 Nov 2021 - 17 Nov 2021
My annual solo exhibition at York Street Gallery.
I showcase a selection of my finest works created during the last twelve months.
Subjects include, landscapes showing, mountains, rivers, trees, windmills, boats and buildings. Coastal and seascapes, showing harbours, cliffs, more boats, cranes, bridges and more buildings, including sheds.
All painted out doors in nature ‘en plein air’, in the impressionist manner.
Biography
I grew up in an artistic household, father was an Architect and Mother, an Art Teacher.
They founded the Shortlands Studios and our Artist in Residence was Peter Midgley.
In Summer you will find me sitting in the corner of a muddy field, or boat yard, sketching or painting 'en plein air' until the light fades or rain intervenes. Then I can be found in my Broadstairs studio, working away using sketches and notes for reference.
I am inspired by David Jones, Edward Seago, Rowland Hilder, and The Wapping Group of Artists.
