  • Angeline Maas  (Weert, the Netherlands, 1976) Artist in painting, animation and collage, graduated Art Academy North Limburg (Belgium) in 2009.

In my work I try to capture moments of humans, alone with their thoughts. They are in their own world and we can only guess what's on their mind. We never know what people are thinking, the only thing we never get a grip on are other people's thoughts. Thoughts are intimate and stay personal. Do we ever really get to know our partner, kids, family or friends? That is my main subject.

I love to create my own world and am easily inspired, or I thought I was. About two years my creative well went dry. Finding inspiration for my work in my close surroundings or even on my travels seemed to lead to nowhere. It took me about a year before, instead of looking outside, I turned my view inwards. Memories, personal history, silly thoughts and coincidences while making collages and mixed media work lead me to my greatest insight: I am my inspiration!  Ever since that moment I’ve been working like crazy.

Like my thoughts my paintings and sculptures often transform during the working process. The story is never finished, and there is room for interpretation by me and the spectator. Is this my thought or memory? Can a personal work be personal to the viewer as well? Will my strong emotion travel through my hands and create emotions, thoughts and dreams in another mind?
