Original artwork description:

When I started this drawing my intention was to carry on my exploration into how to handle the edges of a picture. After starting, my mind soon started to wander and I began to think about picture frames and how badly a lot of art is framed, Some times the frame is more interesting than the artwork, especially a lot of the old masters you see in the museums. During these thoughts, I came up with the idea of putting the frame inside the picture. Doing this solved my thoughts about how to treat the edges of a picture, but created another problem and that is what to put in the frame that I had drawn, I felt that I had to draw a new picture which fitted well with my original idea. This predicament is very similar to the thought pattern of choosing a frame. The ironic thing is that I now had to choose a frame to suit a frame and a picture. A person who says that a 5-year-old could have painted that abstract does not have a clue about what an abstract artist is up against.

Materials used:

Ink and soft pastels.
