Original artwork description:

This work was painted from a series of sketches I did and took back to the studio. I then made several further visits to the area where the deer were grazing, finding this stunning young male just coming into his full maturity.

The task of recreating the feel of his fur against the hard edges of the horns was challenge I relished. And although he was a wild animal, and a wary one, his expression was remarkably gentle.

I often wondered if he is still out there, maybe now with his own harem of females.
