"Yesterday’s Surprise" is a captivating 24” x 36” abstract painting that bursts with energy and fluid motion. Swaths of deep, celestial blues intertwine with golden hues, creating a striking interplay of warmth and depth. Vivid yellows emerge like flashes of light, illuminating the composition with a sense of discovery, while earthy browns ground the piece in a quiet strength. A whisper of burnt orange peeks through in unexpected moments, adding an element of surprise—like a memory surfacing from the past. The overlapping shapes and fluid forms seem to dance across the canvas, evoking a sense of movement and transformation. With its modern vibrancy and dynamic contrasts, "Yesterday’s Surprise" feels both exhilarating and nostalgic, inviting the viewer to explore its layered depths and shifting emotions.
The sides are painted black with 3 coats of protective UV varnish. It is wired in the back, ready to hang.
My technique involves starting with multiple layers of paint using a variety of tools and brushes that create a wide range of shapes, forms and lines. Upon starting, I paint intuitively and quickly. Nearing the end, everything slows down and I begin the process of discernment, carefully analyzing changes in value and composition until I am happy with the final painting.
