Hilde about her work:
In my work I explore the role of nature in our modern, Western lives — searching for the moments where the two meet. Our connection to trees, landscapes, animals and scents is often centuries old, deeply intertwined with emotion and memory. In that encounter, the personal suddenly feels insignificant. My paintings often evoke wordless stories — timeless, dreamlike moments that feel both familiar and elusive.
“I make use of various techniques to
surprise and refresh myself. I get
inspired by music, everyday life and nature. Animals play a big part in my work
– it feels like they can tell a tale that’s already in my mind. A tale without a
beginning or an end, but with a feel of importance, like a freeze frame in a
film.”
