I have watched and photographed many Wrens. It is one of the most common birds where I live. I used a small format size for the series of Wren images. I chose to create small paintings to match the size of these birds.
First layer is built with plaster or modeling paste. Acrylic washes are dabbed or poured on the wet plaster/paste. When the surface is dried I manipulate it by sanding and scratching. More layers are added by repeating this process. Final layer defining shapes referencing birds and nature.
Plaster, texturizing tools, palette knife, acrylic washes, acrylic paint
