A drypoint of a wren which I created by using a fine etching needle to scratch a drawing into a plastic plate, then using the intaglio printmaking process to make a limited edition of prints.
Most of my pieces are linocut prints but recently I’ve been exploring the intaglio process (etching and drypoint) because of the level of detail you can get that isn’t always possible with relief printing.
After having my copper plate etching ‘Hedge Sparrow’ selected for the RA Summer Exhibition 2024 and selling out of the edition of prints, it motivated me to create a similar print of a small garden bird for anyone that missed out.
The wren has been on my list of birds that I’d like to make a piece of artwork of for a while, and it seemed like the perfect choice for an intaglio print because of how delicate and full of fine detail they are.
