Artwork description:

A thoughtful person riding on her eccentric creature as if it was commonplace. A small sculpture questioning what we see as normal.

This rider is sitting on the top of her Round Creature and looking back behind them. It is really nice to be able to sit on an animal knowing that it is happy to carry you along. The creature has a very long tail with which to balance herself.

I made this sculpture by modelling with wax onto a wire armature, or framework, and then I moulded and cast it using an innovative technique that I originated. The finished sculpture is made of a vibrant contemporary British eco-resin that allows me to reproduce the beautiful translucent cream colour of the original wax into a durable material, and which creates interesting glimpses through to the armature, or internal structure of the sculpture. You can see pictures of my casting process in the “Me at Work” section of my Profile.

This sculpture is one of a pair of Women on Round Creatures, which are available either individually or together as a pair. It is mounted on a semi-translucent almost black flat acrylic base, and measures 23cm long by 14cm tall and 5.5cm wide, including the base. It is cast as a limited edition of 24. It is initialled on the creature’s right side near its tail, and comes with a signed letter of authentication, stating its edition number. See my further listings for Woman on Round Creature II, or to purchase them together.

Although the sculpture looks delicate it actually much more robust than it appears and can withstand small knocks and movements in the home. Being made in a light-weight material, it weighs less than half a kilo and is easy to transport and move about. I package it in a sturdy cardboard box and it travels very well by courier.

A little sculpture that offers us an intriguing narrative as we imagine ourselves in their world.
