The painting Woman and the Devil was inspired by my paintings from the Woman and the Bull series, which are my own interpretation of the classic mythological story of the abduction of Europa - the beautiful daughter of the Phoenician king - by the god Zeus, who turned into a bull and inspired many artists.
The oldest surviving ancient image of this story was a wall painting in Pompeii. This story was later painted by such great artists as Titiano, Veronese and Rembrandt.
The painting Woman and the Devil is a free, somewhat humorous interpretation of this story, and at the same time symbolizes the temptations to which every woman is exposed (especially from men).
