Original artwork description:

The Chicago forest preserve is a wonderful pocket of nature, which inspired my painting Winter Woods. In this landscape, the trees in winter are stark brown against the pink twilight reflected off the white snow with blue shadows. The palette is composed of an extreme gradation from light to dark color values. Heavy lines running across the canvas create shapes by themselves that are independent of the scene being represented. This adds an abstract quality to the winter scene. Looking at the beauty of nature in this art creates a peaceful mood.

I was especially pleased to receive an Honorable Mention award for this painting at a recent exhibit, Indigenous Landscapes: Imprints of the South Shore. My painting was among six artworks to receive an award, with over 100 artworks on display.

Shipped as is in U.S. For international sales: In order to keep shipping rates low, this painting is shipped as a rolled canvas. The rolled canvas is wrapped around wooden stretcher bars that can be used to re-stretch it after arrival.

Materials used:

Oil on canvas
