Original artwork description:

An Alpine mountainside in full sunshine on a cold crisp day in Austria. I painted this beautiful hillside from a hotel room in the lovely village of Dorfgastein. It took a long time to firstly draw in all of the groups of trees and crevices in the mountain, then block in colour very carefully to create the effect of huge numbers of trees crowded together. I enjoyed the patterns the forests made against the swathes of white snow.

The next two days were dull and misty, then came a bright sunny day again which allowed me to add more trees, layer up colours of green and ochres and add some tiny detailed bare trees along paths by the chalets.


Drawn with fine charcoal and painted with acrylic Golden open paint on Clairefontaine heavyweight paper.
