Original artwork description:

Evident in my work is the desire to venture off the beaten track and with this painting I have captured an area that is close to me and my life in Cumbria but overlooked by the masses. This particular view is from directly opposite the farm where my previous studio was based. The maize had been harvested, leaving rows of stubble showing through the snow covered hill - leading up to the isolated tree that I would often stand and look out at during the many long hours of painting in the studio. This is one of four that have been framed with a mount and behind glass - unusual for my work. But they were part of a special series that were selected for an individual Christmas exhibition at one of my galleries. They are slices of real life in a rural setting. As with other work these paintings have been built up in layers and a bold impasto style that reflects my desire to connect with the environment.

This painting is signed by me on the front and is one of four that are heavier than usual as they are mounted and behind glass - with a beautiful handmade white-washed ash frame leading the eye right into the work.
