The winter coast is the shore of the Gulf of Finland near the village of Ruchi. A picturesque place about 80 km from St. Petersburg. Everything here is connected with water – the names of villages and towns, the nature of the area and even character of people. The air is humid here. Humid, that is, very humid, about 90 percent is our usual air condition. It's a little weird for life. The umbrella helps only from large raindrops. Because moisture sneaks behind the collar and into all the cracks in the clothes.
It's a little more fun in winter. But if the frosts hits – beware. The air is prickly. And it feels much colder than on the continent. But here is such a place. To say that it is a favorite is to say nothing.
The picture, of course, speaks of a wonderful day, which pamper us in January or February. It’s frosty and dry that is very rare. There is a huge field of snow. It's all the waters of the bay. Now they are sleeping under a crust of ice serenely and quietly. And only the snowdrift rustles slightly and stirs the dry last year's grasses.
It's smelt fish time. This is a small silver fish that everyone in our region recognizes by its delicate cucumber-like aroma. Frying it is especially good. But this picture is also not about that. I can't concentrate at all.
This is my favorite time of the year and my favorite place, and my personal associations and feelings do not allow me to speak to the point. Well, maybe there is no need to say a lot of words. I just really like this painting myself. I hope that you will like it too. Painted at the winter open-air in 2018.
On some parts of the painting you can notice a beautifully frozen paint.
