The graceful curves of folded heat-colored copper in this piece arose from experiments with jewelry, when I made pairs of earrings that began with folding copper twice in crossing diagonals. After folding the sheet once and reheating the copper to make it flexible again, and folded the sheet again; before creasing it a second time I stopped with the pieces curved and took time to arrange them, take photos, and take notes so I could make what I saw into a sculpture. This is the result.
This is a small sculpture to sit on a shelf or mantel. It looks both futuristic and classically elegant, strong as well as delicate, organic at the same time as geometric.
