Original artwork description:

‘WINDOW SPACE’ is an acrylic painting 28x20 cms on 300gms canvas paper. It is presented in a white card mount 35x28cms. It is part of a series of works which focus on ‘garden’ environments. The painting conveys the impression of a ‘moment’, a glimpse of a space in time.
‘Life is an imitation of the reality set up by the painter’ – Barnett Newman 1969.
A painting sets up a standoff between the object/subject and the viewer. Viewers tend to hold on to this position even when there is no convention to follow. Yet artists have been translating emotion into physical appearance for centuries and viewers of course embrace those visual analogues within their own emotional responses. ‘Window Space ‘ transmits a flourish, an emotional spasm and reaction to a moments observation. The execution is made ‘wet on wet’ as a gestural emulation of experience , in this instance a garden viewed at twilight.
