Original artwork description:

One of the early sights we see in springtime before other blossoms start to open in the hedgerow are fluffy willow catkins. As a child I was always fascinated by the furry texture which I guess led people to call the small tree that produces them “pussy willow”. As someone who loves to bring things that grow in the wild into her home, I took back a bunch of these twigs from a walk. Once placed decoratively in a vase, they served as inspiration for this painting. I have chosen a soft spring-like pallet, going upwards from dark to light with light green as a background. The use of darks allowed me to accentuate the light colour of the cheerful catkins, painting the ones in the foreground in more detail.“

Willow Catkins” is an original watercolour painted on Arches 300g rough watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton paints and is one of a series of catkin paintings (see also “Hazelnut Catkins”). It comes with a white mount to fit a standard frame size of 40cm x 50cmand is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
