‘No matter how chaotic it is, wildflowers will still spring up in the middle of nowhere.’ Sheryl Crow

How true is that, and there is certainly plenty of chaos around at the moment. However, it is nice to get a little solace from something as elegantly simple and resilient as some flowers popping up on the side of the road.

I painted this abstraction from a bunch of extraordinary wildflowers next to the road while we were on our way to pick up our Christmas ham a few weeks ago. At that time, we were pretty much in lockdown here in the south west of France, but were free to do essential things provided you had filled out the form and were carrying it with you.

After consideration, I decided to err on the side of caution, (in case the gendarmerie did not consider plein air painting as an essential practice with respect to public health) and takes some notes and some pictures on my phone, and continue the painting in the studio.

Really enjoyed throwing the paint around and losing the form but keeping the colour and texture.

Materials used:

oil, charcoal
