A handcarved limited edition lino print. Printed in black waterbased ink on 280gsm Fabriano Rosapina archival paper. This print is from an edition of 20.
Image size: 15 x 20.5 cms Paper size: 29 x 35 cms
This image was drawn directly onto the lino and then carved away to leave areas white.
I was initially inspired by the symbolism of the hand and it's various meanings in many cultures and societies, and in particular The Hand of Philosophies/Mysteries.
My image though references more the idea of man's connection with nature, or indeed our lack of connection at present times. I'm also interested in the hand symbol as being part of a folklore tradition, or being from a time where we spent more time working with or being surrounded by nature itself.
The plant forms are wild garlic that grow in abundance on the coastal paths of Cornwall, an area I frequently visit. I wanted to use this wild plant, as it seems to herald the start of Spring.
These twisting forms grow around the hand, re-connecting us with all that is wild and beautiful.
Each print is signed and dated and arrives in a secure hard backed envelope.
