We live in a society where many of us label ourselves and others, while Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” in the Gospel of Matthew 16: 13-17. So I have gathered labels and packaging, from which I created a collage that was then mounted on canvas and overpainted in oil and cold wax. Since labels can create division and misunderstanding, I have used design elements from the quilting pattern called “Wedding Rings” in order to stress my hope in the unity of identity shared by all who believe that Jesus is Lord. This painting has been given a satin varnish for protection, and hanging hardware is already installed.
