There is a sharp contrast between the fine, delicate drawing of white roses and dark coloured background. I used soft graphite pencil for flowers and coloured pastel pencils; umbra brown, some green and dark blue for background. I wanted to emphasize dazzling whiteness of roses in a dark thicket of garden.
