Artwork description:

White-faced Herons are the most commonly seen herons in Australia. I often see one perched on a tree branch over the creek, when I take a morning walk down to the beach. So this is drawn partly from memory.

I used a process called Solar or Photopolymer Etching. This is similar to Relief Solarplate (see my print 'Chanticleer and Pertelote') except in this case the plate is also exposed to a random dot screen, which enables the image to be printed intaglio, just like a copper plate etching. I printed the etched plate twice, but the first time I simply painted the colours in the background on the plate and printed it in relief, as a monotype. The second time, I inked up the etching and printed it intaglio. That means each print is subtly different. The edition of 6 was made for a book that was exhibited in Melbourne. I only have three artist's proofs (A.P.) left.

Materials used:

oil based inks on archival Hahnemuhle etching paper, mounted on archival board
