Whitby is one of the most beautiful and historic coastal towns in England. It is such an inspirational subject, especially just when the sun rises over the North Sea. Here I have tried to capture the kaleidoscope of colours and shapes that you get in this twilight.
It was at the synod of Whitby in 664AD that the Northumbrian King Oswiu adopted the Roman church's method of calculating easter in preference to the Celtic church - which brought England into the catholic fold. The synod took place at the Streonshalh monastery later to be known as Whitby abbey.
