Whe night comes to the village, Hampi India
colour sumi inks on Nepal handmade paper, 14 x19.5 in., 49 x 36 cm.
This is a real hit from my past. The winter of 1990-91 I travelled India and Nepal with my paints and fairly large paper, and I did plenty of interesting paintings out on location.
I visited the ruins in Hampi, Southern India. At that time this was an amazing location to visit and stay some time to absorb the mood of the place, the huge stone ruins covering vast distances. Here is a scene from the very active village at the centre of the site, done in the style I painted then.
The paper used here is a traditional handmade paper I got in Nepal back then. The unbleached paper is a thick parchment paper, strong yet pliable. The edges may be uneven as is the nature of handmade paper.
My paintings in that period were done on location, without preliminary sketches nor any working lines on the paper. This is paint applied directly on a blank page.
The close up picture is of higher resolution to be able to get a feel for the brush strokes of the painting.
Please note that you can purchase up to 3 paintings of this size or smaller in one order to be included in the same 1 shipping fee.
