Original artwork description:

~Wheatfield~ 40x20 inch, Oil on Canvas

This impressionistic piece was inspired by the South Australian countryside, especially the area around Burra. The intention for the painting was to create two separate and distinct areas of colour - background and foreground - and to experiment with the collision of perspective and tone.

The painting is an exploration of space. On one hand, both the sky and wheat field represent an emptiness typical of the country, and yet the foreground is littered with rapid, impasto brush strokes giving texture to the wheat. Together with the single isolated and plain house, it asks the viewer whether it is the house that is the island of life, separated from the rest of the world by lifeless wheat, or whether the real life is in the land, the house only sustained by its vitality.

The near foreground was built up using an impasto medium representing the form and movement of the wheat.

NB: This piece was finished on the 26th of August 2016, and is still in the process of drying. It will be in condition to ship in 1-2 weeks. For any questions please message me, thank you.
