Wheal Owles a disused Tin mine in the parish of St. just, Cornwall .. I wanted to convey in my painting the bleakness of the rocks around the tin mine with the stark contrast of natures natural rockery on the other side of the cove.
I had goosebumps whilst painting this landscape and after some research found out that on the 10th January 1893 a tragic disaster happened here where part of the mine collapsed and the sea flooded in and killed 19 men and a young boy, their bodies were never recovered.
This painting is dedicated to them.
The sides are painted so no real requirement to frame.
