A nostalgic digital painting comprised of many layers of brushwork to capture the depth and sense of panorma in this scene. Two deer look back at a landscape that is rapidly altering under the pressures of modern urbanisation and yet the view itself remains timeless, transcendent and, hopefully, not forgotten or abandoned. A reminder of what is most precious.
This artwork has evolved many times, being one I never seem content to put down. The limited edition version offered here is the most complex, detailed and colour-balanced version of all - the finale of a long period of fixation with this engaging subject. I work with a digital painting much as I do with oil on canvas, addding layers, paring back, softening with blur just as I would do with the smudging together of pigments and using all the digital tools at my disposal freely, just as I do with fingers and sandpaper etc when I create a canvas. The end result is not meant to be pristine, as with a photographic work, but rather to convey a impression, an emotion or an essence.
Giclée printed to Hahnemühle Photo Rag, which makes for super-rich colour reproduction and has a soft fibrous quality similar to watercolour paper. Achival quality printing using Epsom inks. Subtle artist signature on the right bottom corner.
