Reminiscent of pop art, featuring bold, textural strokes of bright red with big black hearts. Small scribbles and symbols, text, and touches of pink and yellow flesh out the artwork. “What is love?” poses a question as old as humankind. Working from personal emotional pain, I experimented with the visual deconstruction of love. In relationships long, short, good or bad, I find myself always asking this same thing.
“What is Love?” is an acrylic painting on substantial, archival paper. This bright and bold meditation on love is large enough to hang on it’s own as a statement piece, but would also work well as part of a gallery wall, or paired with one of its sibling pieces from the “What is Love?” series.
My work is a mix of many things, and created in a number of ways. Sometimes viscerally — with brush in hand —fueled by loud music, emotion and caffeine, other times it’s more meditative, working in a deliberate fashion. Part of my process is the naming each piece, or series of pieces, and as a lover of words and language, I often feel that a piece or series is not complete until a name is crafted.
