This painting was created especially for the "Portraits from the Precipice" competition in association with Artfinder and Octopus Energy.
The sail which brought my family and me with our sailboat from Europe to the Pacific without fossil fuels, serves as canvas. It is wonderful to feel the power of the wind without the noise of engines. No doubt it is a slow way to travel, but how different is the arrival in a foreign country or continent after days or weeks at sea with the knowledge there is no carbon footprint left.

What can you do for the ocean? written in ICAO-Alphabet, which is indespensable while sailing, is a simple question. All of us can think about what each one of us can do to stop the climate change.

The project is called: ‘Portraits from the Precipice’ and this is also what the sail stands for. While sailing from French-Polynesia to Hawaii a terrible storm tore the sail apart. Because of the climate change sailing is less predictable. The traditional sailing routes are no longer generally valid.
