This cottage overlooks Llanfoist Wharf on the bottom of a steep incline where iron ore was once transported from Blaenavon Ironworks. This area is now a world heritage site because of its historical significance during the early part of the Industrial Revolution.
This is one of a series of collages I have made in response to exploring the canal on my boat called Tarka. I sketched and painted from the back of the boat and then worked up these images to make paper cut outs of the notable landmarks. The collage swatches were pre prepared using oil paints and printing inks before being fixed to Somerset paper. This in turn has been attached to backing board.
The image is mounted in a wide mount and protected with a clear polycarbonate sleeve.
Paper, printing ink, oil paint, board.
