A sultry, soulful lass from Frome in Somerset.
This portrait painting is different for many of my others, which have the sunlight directly lighting one side of the face to create a showy contrast. In fact most o f portraiture is about this light and dark contrast.
In this portrait, the sun is behind the model, at about 2 o' clock so back lights her face and the sun is caught delicately in her eyelashes.
It was a much more difficult painting to paint as a result, carefully balancing the light and colour.
