We Miss You

Greed was in the air, right on the heels of the virus.
Before they take their last breath, the ventilator had already been promised to the next victim.
Doctors sigh, nurses cry.
No one could prepare them for this.
Ice skating rinks, now makeshift morgues.

The invisible enemy tore a hole through the fabric of faith.
There is no one to blame for our grief and shame.
We should have done more, to kill the enemy before,
it came through our front door.

Trillions of dollars on the table, to keep the country stable.
Thousands of dead, each dying afraid and alone.
We are proud to call this country our home.
We are happy with our new cell phone.
