With this watermelon painting, I wanted to capture the natural bright colours of my favourite fruit in an exaggerated, flat, pop art style. Usually I set my subjects against a sky blue background, but for this one I experimented with yellow which I think really makes the colours of the fruit pop from the canvas.

The two slices of watermelon were painted in acrylics and Posca paint pens on a block canvas that's ready to hang. It can be displayed any way up, including diagonally, as pictured.

The end result is a small but bright and bold painting that would look great in any home, or serve as a great gift for the food lover in your life. My previous customers have also often bought more than one of these smaller canvases as they look great hung together - see the last picture.

I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and by modern days graphic designers and street artist.
