A month ago I drove three hours from Sydney to Kanangra Boyd NP to do some painting. We arrived there and it started raining heavily but I decided to walk down to one of the closest waterfalls and do a monochromatic sketch. I then used that sketch as the foundation to paint full colour using reference photos and memories of the day. I love painting waterfalls trying to capture the energy of the water. In Australia, waterfalls are best seen after the rains as the water will be flowing well and not just trickling.
In this oil painting, I've married impressionism with realism to capture nature's dynamic spirit. The raw energy of the cascading waterfall contrasts with the serene stillness of the surrounding foliage, embodying the harmony and tension in nature. This piece is meant to evoke a sense of peace and awe, infusing your space with the invigorating essence of the wilderness.
