Looking at the reflection is often more interesting than looking directly at the object. Especially when both, the object and reflecting surface are dynamic and fluid substances, like the pound water and the cloudy sky in our case. This water lilies oil painting, although inspired by Claude Monet, is more focused on depiction of the complex surface of the pound, the sky, and what is underneath the water. Whereas, the water lilies floating on the surface are used as an element that allows our eyes to fix on the painting and put all parts together.
