Original artwork description:

This flame-like wallpiece is my most recent exploration of the possibilities of my construction technique of layered lightly curved hammer-formed plates closely fitted over one another to form very low relief, delicately curved shapes.

The piece is formed by cutting and shaping copper sheets by hand, then patinaing them with traditional sculptural patinas applied while heating the metal with a torch, then bolting those sheets together. The patinas in this case are distressed with a wire brush wheel to bring up the layers of patina and the brown of the heat-treated copper beneath.

This piece is fairly light in weight, making it easy to hang on any wall using two screws or nails.

Though it was designed in this orientation to suggest a flame, this piece can be hung any direction; horizontally, it has a fish-like form. This piece can be hung out of doors in a protected location.
