Whilst in Panama I would get up early every morning, go out to the bohio where I kept my painting materials and spend an hour or two sketching, experimenting with colours and techniques and sometimes just sitting watching as the sun shone through the myriad of plants.
At home I painted with oils on a prepared stretched cotton canvas covering the whole area with a wash of burnt sienna. Once this had dried I started to increase the thickness of the paint until the white patches of sunlight were applied with impasto. I feel the heat in this painting.
