There were ships on the horizon, though Vlad couldn't see them. It was the mist, he told himself, but the mist was not in the air. However hard he squinted, he could not quite make out what those shapes in the distance were: the hazy shadows, the patches of paleness, the sounds coming from nothing. Still, he drew.

This portrait is part of my '100 heads' series: 100 small figurative sculptures of curious characters from my imagination.
